Last night, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris separately refused to shut the door on packing the Supreme Court multiple times. Each politician was given the chance to tell the American people where they stood. Both danced around a direct answer and notably left the door open to court packing.
Moderator Chris Wallace asked Biden if he supported packing the court if current nominee Amy Coney Barrett, who Biden called a very fine person, was confirmed by the Senate. He completely dodged.
After the debate, Kamala Harris dodged the question again during interview with CBS and CNN.
John Dickerson: “His [Biden] answer on court-packing, adding more justice to the court, just sounds like a straight-up dodge. Why won’t he talk about what he wants to do, what he wants to happen?”
The answer…
Soon after dodging the question on CBS, Harris dodged for a second time during an interview on CNN:
CNN anchor Jake Tapper noted afterward that Harris had refused to answer the question.
Notably in all three instances, Biden and Harris refused to rule out the possibility of packing the court.
The evasiveness is in strong contrast to the judicial record of President Trump, who is staring down the prospect of nominating and having confirmed three qualified Supreme Court Justices and filling nearly 300 empty seats across the country. The difference is night and day.
