Detractors of Senator Jeff Sessions’ nomination have cited an extreme anti-immigration agenda as reason to block his confirmation as US Attorney General. Fortunately, Sessions has a strong record on immigration that serves the national interest and puts Americans first.
Sessions is well-versed on immigration issues, having previously served as Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and serving as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest. As Subcommittee Chair, Sessions has used his position to promote an immigration policy that prioritizes America’s safety and security while focusing on jobs and wages for the American people.
Immigration will be a priority for Senator Sessions. Rather than reward a system favoring illegality, Sessions will put forward “commonsense improvements” that puts American citizens first.
For example, Sessions is a champion of E-Verify, a free federal database that allows employers to easily check the immigration status of potential employees. Sessions also supports strong border enforcement measures to discourage people from entering our country illegally.
Confirming Sen. Jeff Sessions as Attorney General will be the first step to enacting a robust immigration policy that for too long has put the interest of Americans last.
