As Patrick Leahy gets set to question Jeff Sessions, here’s a reminder of the previous praise Leahy has heaped on him, even saying that he is, “wonderful to work with,” and  said he has a “special affection,” for prosecutors like Jeff Sessions:

At Eric Holder’s Attorney General Confirmation Hearing, Leahy Said That He And The Judiciary Committee Have Relied On Sessions’ Experience As A Former U.S. Attorney.  “And at the 2009 confirmation hearing for Eric Holder to be Attorney General, the Vermont senator said to Sessions, ‘Sen. Sessions is here: of course, Sen. Sessions is also a former U.S. attorney and knows what one goes through in that regard, and we’ve relied on him for that experience. And, Sen. Sessions, it’s over to you.’ To which Sessions responded, ‘Thank you, Mr. Chairman. And, congratulations, Mr. Holder, on the nomination.’” (Paul Bedard, “Awkward: Dem Critics Of Jeff Sessions Spent 20 Years Praising Him,” The Washington Examiner, 12/13/16)

In 1997, Senator Pat Leahy (D-VT) Said He Has A “Special Affection” For Prosecutors Like Jeff Sessions And Looked Forward To Working With Him In The Senate.”  “Freshman Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., a former federal prosecutor and state attorney general, received a warm welcome to the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday from ranking Democrat Pat Leahy, Vt. ‘I have a special affection for anyone who has been a prosecutor,’ said Leahy, who was one himself more than two decades ago, ‘and therefore I look forward to working with [him].’” (Dan Carney, “Sessions Gets A Warm Welcome From Former Foe At Judiciary,” Congressional Quarterly, 1/31/97)

Senator Pat Leahy (D-VT):   “Thank You. Thank You, Senator Sessions. And Again, I Welcome You Here In Your New — New Role On The Judiciary Committee.”  (Patrick Leahy, Committee On The Judiciary, U.S. Senate, 5/6/09)>
