While Clinton’s plan to ease the burden of student loans and make college free for most Americans was a nod to Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the plan doesn’t go far enough for those on the left, as reported by The Washington Post.

Many on the left believe free college should be free for all and not just some, decrying the use of a financial means test outlined in Clinton’s education plan:

Sara Goldrick-Rab, Professor Of Higher Education And Sociology, Temple University: Goldrick-Rab takes issue with Clinton’s continued use of a means test to determine eligibility for free tuition. Tying financial aid to income, she argued, has “failed miserably” in determining who needs assistance and helping families pay for college.

José Luis Santos, Vice President For Higher Education Policy And Practice At The Education Trust: Income thresholds also fail to take into account the limitations of earnings in parts of the country with a high cost of living, said José Luis Santos, vice president for higher education policy and practice at the Education Trust, a think tank.

We all know that free doesn’t actually mean free, it just means at the expense of the American taxpayers. Clinton’s plan will only exacerbate the cost for taxpayers to bear. Clinton’s new education plan will balloon the cost of her plan from $350 billion to $450 billion. Clinton and other radicals on the left demanding free college are just shifting the cost of college onto taxpayers and higher-income earners. By embracing the radical and costly ideas of the far left, Clinton’s education plan is the first step to unifying and transforming the Democratic Party into the “Democratic Socialist Party.”
