Yesterday, California voters overwhelmingly voted to recall Democratic state Senator Josh Newman. Newman was a decisive vote in raising the gas tax by 12 cents per gallon last fall and his recall was centered on that particular vote:
“Nearly two-thirds of voters recalled Newman, of Fullerton, over his vote last year to increase fuel and vehicle taxes to raise about $5 billion a year for road repairs.”
Newman’s recall signals that voters are motivated to head to the polls this fall to reject tax hikes and are determined to hold the politicians who supported them accountable for their vote.
