Koster Completes Flip-Flop On Voter ID
Yesterday, St. Louis Public Radio published a piece on Chris Koster’s newfound position on Voter ID. As has come to be expected, the career politician reversed course and came out against the Voter ID measure that will be on the ballot this November.
On August 10, 2016, Koster claimed he opposed voter ID laws in principal, but called this year’s bill “a good compromise.” Just one day later, Koster told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he wasn’t opposed to a Voter ID law that would require Missourians to show a photo ID at the polling place.
Koster’s waffling record on Voter ID has been wildly unpredictable. In 2006, Koster voted for a bill enforcing Voter ID and voted to shut down a filibuster that wanted to eliminate voter ID. Then, in 2014, he changed course and “lauded Democrats in Jefferson City for stopping an ‘ugly’ Voter ID measure.”
On the campaign trail, Chris Koster has previously flip-flopped on Medicaid Expansion, campaign contribution limits, and now Voter ID. How are Missourians supposed to trust a career politician that has a documented history of changing positions based on political circumstances?
