Clinton Campaign Highlights Job Losses From $15/Hour Minimum Wage
The emails from John Podesta published by WikiLeaks have unveiled the true beliefs of the Clinton campaign, which appear to diverge significantly from what they say in public. The latest example of that comes in regard to the so-called “Fight For $15,” which Clinton’s campaign has embraced publicly, but denounces behind closed doors:
In one specific email exchange, President for the Center For American Progress and Clinton advisor Neera Tanden says that Clinton should not come out in favor of a $15/hour minimum wage because, “you will get a fair number of liberal economists who will say it will lose jobs.”
In a follow up email, Clinton’s top policy advisor Jake Sullivan says that “The Red Army,” wants to support a $15/hour minimum wage and Tanden responds, “when you say Red Army, you mean the base of the Democratic party, right?”
By referring to supporters of a $15/hour minimum wage as part of “The Red Army,” Clinton’s senior campaign staffers are essentially equating them to 20th Century communists. Not only do they refuse to support their campaign, but it’s clear that their offensive language indicates that they don’t value or respect the movement.
They also acknowledge that a $15/hour minimum wage will eliminate jobs, a notion that has been confirmed by a Heritage Foundation study finding that if the federal minimum wage became $15 an hour, 7 million jobs would be lost.
