Consumer Confidence Lowest Since January

Consumer Confidence Lowest Since January

September 29, 2021

Consumer confidence in the economy has dipped to lows not seen since January as Americans continue to sour on Democrats’ leadership in Washington.

The Hill: Gallup’s latest Economic Confidence Index, published Wednesday, had a rated score of negative 21, down from negative 12 in August and negative 6 in July.

By comparison, the index hit negative 33 in April 2020, just weeks after the coronavirus pandemic reached American soil, and negative 21 two months later.

The results from Gallup show that only 25% of Americans think that the economic conditions are “good” or “excellent.” That dissatisfaction and worry over the economy could continue to reverberate in the country into 2022.

Gallup cited inflation and a weakened August jobs report as reasons for the crisis in confidence.
