Obama Administration And Key Democrats Leave Israel In A Vulnerable Position

The Obama Administration and other key Democrats have been on a recent flurry of anti-Israel positions and rhetoric, leaving them Israel in an increasingly precarious position

The Obama Administration and other key Democrats have been on a recent flurry of anti-Israel positions and rhetoric. This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the Democrat’s obsession with embracing America’s enemies, while ignoring our most important and loyal allies. Democrats obviously have no problem leaving our most valuable and consistent ally in the Middle East in an even more compromising position than their already vulnerable state.

In the Senate, Senator Patrick Leahy has led the anti-Israel movement by opposing a measure in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which would penalize supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement by aiding state and local governments in cutting ties with BDS supporters. Leahy, who is distinctly known for being a vocal critic of Israel, has not stopped in his anti-Israel rhetoric with just his opposition to anti-BDS legislation, which wages economic warfare against Jewish state:

Leahy has been a vocal critic of Israel and recently called on the State Department to launch an investigation into what he said were Israeli human rights violations in the Middle East. His effort elicited backlash from mainstream elements of the pro-Israel community, who rejected his accusations as meritless and an attempt to malign Israel.

Leahy also has come under fire for implying his Republican colleagues are more loyal to Israel than America. The accusation has widely been condemned as anti-Semitic in nature.

Sadly, even if the anti-BDS measure is included in the 2017 NDAA, it is likely that President Obama will issue an executive order to ignore the law:

The Obama administration has already expressed its own opposition to the anti-BDS legislation and it is likely the president would issue an executive order to ignore the law.

What also strains our ties with Israel is Tuesday’s announcement from the Obama Administration informing Congress that they would refuse to fully fund the Israeli-U.S. missile defense and also opposed efforts to provide Israel with the funds necessary for the joint-missile program. It is baffling that the Obama Administration had no hesitation in releasing billions of dollars to a régime in Iran who has pledged “death to America,” but refuses to fund a missile defense to help shield our greatest ally in the region from terrorism and other common enemies. As Iran spends billions of U.S. taxpayer funds to bolster its threating military, the U.S. and especially Israel become more vulnerable.

With the Administration and Democrats continuing to aid our enemies and ignore our allies, Israel is left scrambling to find security while being in the world’s most dangerous and unstable region, made even more precarious by the Administration’s reckless nuclear deal with Iran. The Left must remember who America’s friends are and must be willing to protect and defend them from out common threats across the globe.
