President Trump Nominates Another Slate Of Excellent Judges
Since nominating Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, President Trump has continued to pick strong and accomplished conservative justices to serve on the federal bench. That started in May when he selected 10 highly-qualified nominees for lower courts and continued today when he put forward more outstanding choices.
Of the 11 nominees submitted today by the President, three are for high-profile federal appeals courts, including one to replace Justice Gorsuch on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. For more on these nominees, read a piece in The Washington Times that was first to report on their selection.
In response to these nominations, Carrie Severino, Chief Counsel and Policy Director of the Judicial Crisis Network, praised the selections, calling them a “major victory” for conservatives:
“President Trump has just announced his latest batch of appellate and district court nominees. It’s a fantastic list, again drawing on his previous success from his Supreme Court list, by nominating Colorado Supreme Court Justice Allison Eid to fill Justice Gorsuch’s vacant seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Many of the nominees are well known in the conservative legal movement and have shown commitment to principled and evenhanded application of the law throughout their careers. For the many Americans whose top concern in November was electing a president who would put committed constitutionalists to the courts, this is another major victory.”
On top of Severino’s praise, Jonathan Adler, a law professor at Case Western University, noted that all of the President’s nominees were “superlative,” with “sterling credentials and impressive intellects.”:
“President Trump continues to put forward superlative judicial nominees with sterling credentials and impressive intellects. It’s especially notable that President Trump continues to pick current and former academics for the appellate bench — more so than any recent President. This will only magnify the impact his nominees are likely to have on the federal courts.”
By nominating individuals with a strong foundation in the law and a commitment to defending the Constitution, President Trump is keeping a major campaign promise. The Senate Judiciary Committee should promptly consider and approve these nominees, and then they should be confirmed swiftly by the full Senate so they can take their seat on the federal bench and carry-out the law in a just and competent manner.
