Senate HELP Committee ranking chair Sen. Patty Murray’s (D-WA) desperate attacks from the Senate floor on Betsy DeVos prove she is in the pocket of the teachers unions and has no interest in supporting reform to a much-needed education system.
Patty Murray’s criticisms of alleged “potential conflicts of interest” with DeVos is quite rich since she faced scrutiny in 2011 from liberal ethics watchdog organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) for her role as the Senate Democrats’ top fundraiser while serving on the debt super committee. CREW executive director Melaine Sloan said:
“Americans need to have confidence that the solutions offered by the super committee represent the best interest of all Americans, not just committee members’ biggest donors. While this is an issue for all super committee members, it is more pronounced for Sen. Murray, who is also the chief fundraiser for Senate Democrats.”
Murray is also tied at the hip to the special interest teacher’s unions who are committed to defending broken status quo in education. Murray has received at least $130,000 from the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association.
Murray’s last minute, desperate attacks on the eminently qualified Betsy DeVos reek of hypocrisy and desperation.
