As the Missouri Legislature works to find a tangible resolution on a transportation infrastructure bill, Democrats are trying to do everything possible to impose a tax hike for Missourians at the gas pump.

Yesterday, The Missouri Times reported that Democratic Minority Leader Jacob Hummel tried to tack a gas tax hike onto an existing transportation bill, despite the fact that a similar discussion is set to be heard in committee on this topic early next week.

The Times reported that Transportation Committee chair Glen Kolkmeyer, R-Odessa said that any kind of gas tax legislation, “should be heard in a committee and go through the normal procedures before it comes to the floor,” which seems like a common sense comment when it comes to protecting taxpayer dollars.

It is imperative that the State Legislature work to solve Missouri’s infrastructure shortcomings while also making sure that taxpayers have their voice heard and are not squeezed when they need to fill up their tanks.
