Chris Koster has not taken leadership to stand up and condemn Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed’s unpatriotic protest of the Pledge of Allegiance

This week, in an act of protest, Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed, a St. Louis Democrat, stood for the Legislature’s opening prayer but notably sat when the chamber began to recite the Pledge Of Allegiance.
While gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens has come out and condemned the unpatriotic demonstration, his opponent and sitting Attorney General Chris Koster has remained silent on the issue.
According to The Kansas City Star, Nasheed,”pointed to the legislature’s refusal to mandate police body cameras, underfunding of Missouri’s public schools, the push for a voter ID law, refusal to expand access to Medicaid and refusal to increase the minimum wage among other issues that inspired her to sit during the pledge.” Koster and Nasheed have similar views on these issues, which may be why he has refused to denounce her actions.
Missouri needs leaders that lead and stand up when someone is defiantly protesting the greatness of America. If Chris Koster believes Sen. Nasheed’s actions are wrong, he needs to immediately condemn her and call for respect of flag. Otherwise, his silence on the issue only acts as a tacit endorsement.
