Another ObamaCare Co-Op Floundering Due To “Financial Difficulties”

An ObamaCare co-op in Maine that expanded into New Hampshire, which was “initially hailed as the poster child for co-op success,” announced yesterday it would cut off enrollment for individuals “because of financial difficulties.”:

Community Health Options is cutting off individual enrollment on Dec. 15 because of financial difficulties.

The nonprofit health plan seeded with Obamacare loans, however, will continue to sign up small group customers for 2016 coverage.

The co-op, which serves over 70,000 customers, experienced “financial dificulties” when “claims began exceeding premiums” this year:

But claims began exceeding premiums in the third quarter of this year, with the insurer losing $17.3 million. Those financial difficulties have apparently continued into the fourth quarter.

The co-op had just over 70,000 customers at the end of September.

These ObamaCare co-ops were loaned a stunning $2.4 billion but many of the co-ops “have collapsed because of financial problems.”
