Last night, Reuters reported that two more Guantanamo militants out of 17 that were released by the Obama administration earlier this year had rejoined enemy militant groups, bringing the total to nine previous detainees that are now on the battlefield against the United States.

Washington has confirmed that a total of nine people freed from Guantanamo have rejoined militant groups since President Barack Obama took office in 2009, according to a report issued on Tuesday by the Office of Director of National Intelligence, or ODNI.

Throughout his administration, President Obama has drastically drawn down the ranks of militants in Guantanamo, releasing a total of 161 prisoners. He continues to claim that he can shut down the prison in January and recently acknowledged during a briefing in Vientiane, Laos that his administration was “working diligently” to close the prison.

Despite his best efforts, President Obama was dealt a setback in his quest to close the prison this morning when the U.S. House of Representatives voted 244-174 in favor of legislation banning the transfer of militants from Guantanamo. The President intends to veto the bill should it come before him.

If Obama succeeds in closing Guantanamo, nearly 100 prisoners will be free to rejoin the enemy.

The prison currently holds 61 terrorism suspects after the Pentagon announced last month it was transferring 15 detainees to the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. is seeking partners to accept 20 more detainees who have already been approved for transfer.

This disturbing news should give all Americans pause as the Administration is knowingly releasing detainees that are committed to causing harm to our country. With his time in office coming to a close, it’s clear that President Obama wants to leave the Far Left a parting gift, despite the fact that it jeopardizes the safety of Americans at home and abroad.
