Chris Koster will desperately try to tout his pro-gun bona fides, but a closer examination of Koster’s is raising eyebrows among those concerned about protecting and defending the Second Amendment.
During the campaign, Koster has enthusiastically accepted more than $1 million in contributions from the Democratic Governors Association, including a massive contribution at the end of July specifically to run an attack ad against his opponent. The DGA is led by Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy, one of the most prominent anti-gun elected officials in the United States. In the past, Malloy has said an NRA leader reminds him of “clowns at the circus” and led the charge in Connecticut to ban assault weapons in the state. Why would someone so stridently anti-gun be spending millions to elect someone who claims to be pro-gun?
On top of his close ties to Governor Malloy, Koster supports avowed Second Amendment opponent Hillary Clinton for President. Earlier this year, Clinton declined to say if the right to bear arms was Constitutionally protected and throughout her campaign has expressed hostility to law-abiding gun owners.
You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep. In the case of Chris Koster, while he tries to talk a good game on 2A issues, he rubs elbows and takes campaign cash from avowed gun-rights opponents.
