In a Facebook town-hall meeting w/ Montanans last night, Democrat Jon Tester pushed for Judge Gorsuch to get “a fair shake” when his confirmation comes before the Senate.

SEN. TESTER: Gorsuch is the nominee for the Supreme Court. This is a very important position, maybe one of the most important decisions I make as a United States Senator. As you well know, the Supreme Court, the third branch of government, plays a very, very important role in the checks and balances and the law of this land, and I think it’s important that we give Neil Gorsuch a fair shake, and I have met with him in my office. He presents himself very, very well. I can’t tell you if I’m going to vote for him or against him at this time because I need to do more work looking at some of the decisions he’s made, some of the opinions he’s written, and then we’ll make a determination.

Tester joins Senators Durbin, Shaheen and several others in calling for Gorsuch to be treated fairly by Senate Democrats.

Sen Durbin: “We’ve had a handful of Democratic senators who’ve already announced they’re voting no. Many people in some parts of the base think we should all make that announcement. I just don’t think that’s appropriate.”

Sen. Shaheen: “To suggest that we should not get a fair hearing on the nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Gorsuch, I think is just not something that’s going to be good for the American people.”

This flies in the face of what some Democrats like Elizabeth Warren, Jeff Merkely, Chuck Schumer, and others who said they’d oppose Judge Gorsuch before or in the immediate aftermath of his nomination.
